Shuswap Women Who Wine to hold second Bottle Drive for Shuswap SPCA Branch May 29th-30th
Volunteers from the Shuswap Women Who Wine non-profit society will be holding a bottle drive to benefit the Shuswap SPCA branch on Saturday May 29th and Sunday May 30th. Volunteers will be available for bottle and can pickups in the North Shuswap, Blind Bay, Salmon Arm, Canoe and Sicamous.
Since the pandemic began, the BC SPCA has lost substantial revenue due to having to cancel so many fundraising events over the past year, but their work has not stopped. They still take on cruelty and other emergency animal cases and are open to the public by appointment for animal adoptions. Financial donations can be made online at spca.bc.ca, they also have two amazon.ca “wishlists” if anyone wants to buy necessary pet food or supplies and have it shipped free to the branch. Staff at the branch are accepting non-monetary donations dropped off at the branch.
“Unique to the BC SPCA, we’ve broadened our Community Outreach program to distribute more pet food to various Food Banks and shelter facilities like Salmon Arm’s SAFE Society. We also offer free emergency animal boarding and care for animals belonging to individuals and families in crisis. We strongly believe in supporting our community’s needs especially during the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Branch Manager Victoria Olynik (& proud member of Women Who Wine Society).
To participate in or donate to the bottle drive, book a pickup time on womenwhowine.ca or email info@womenwhowine.ca. Volunteers will be able to pick up your bottle donations on the 29th, we simply ask that you email us your address and leave them on a porch or driveway where they are easily accessible on the day you choose. Bottles and cans must be in bags but do not need to be sorted.
If you can drop off your bottles and cans, please bring them to the Shuswap SPCA Branch located at 5850 Auto Rd SE, Salmon Arm.
Volunteers will be taking all necessary precautions to ensure social distancing measures are in place, and PPE is worn to mitigate COVID-19.
Women Who Wine and the Shuswap SPCA would like to thank the Enderby Bottle Depot, Bill’s Bottle Depot in Salmon Arm and Sicamous Bottle Depot for agreeing to help with this bottle drive fundraiser. All funds raised stays with the Shuswap SPCA for local animal welfare needs.
